DRC365 #164

Battle of Kamanyola. This monument marks the battle of Kamanyola Bridge in 1964 as the Congolese Army led by Mobutu fought back rebel forces that occupied the city of Bukavu. Local legend has it that an assassination attempt came so close that the bullet made a hole in Mobutu’s hat. He went on to rule the country for 32 years. His statue no longer stands here, but the monument and legend remain.
