Sneaking into a music festival. This weekend Goma has hosted the Amani festival, a celebration of peace via music, dance and art. Artists from across the continent come to perform and it is one of the busiest and most popular weekends of the year. In a city that has known conflict first-hand, a peace festival holds a unique attraction and symbolism. It also means that tickets sell out fast. We got as far as the VIP entrance today before we were turned away. No ticket, no entry. A few enthusiastic ticket touts tried to sell us yesterday’s ticket, and we only succeeded in getting one of our group through the gates. Better luck next time.
