Spider Boat. After sunset, if you sit by the lake you can hear a chorus of fisherman singing as they paddle out for the evening’s catch. Most of the fish in Lake Kivu are Sambasa (the size of sardines) and are caught using these boats. The fisherman hang lamps over the edges to attract the fish and the long poles hold the net. I had grown accustomed to the singing but was surprised the first time I saw one of these boats in daylight. I now sing the ‘Spiderman’ theme whenever I see them…. “Spider boat, spider boat….”
