Boating on the lake. This afternoon a trip across the lake in a boat to get to Bukavu. There are a variety of boats, this little fishing pirogue much smaller than our form of transport but perhaps much more picturesque. The first time I crossed this lake they showed a documentary all about the deadly levels of methane beneath the service and how the slightest disruption to the current status quo could result in catastrophe for all on and living around the lake. I have had a healthy respect for it ever since, accompanied by a faint admiration for this vast expanse that graces our doorstep here in Goma.
